Shop and save the planet

Greenearth My eco-consciousness kicked in the other day when I was doing my
weekly shop on FreshDirect , a New York City-based online grocery store. Before I clicked on my selections, I noticed a promo encouraging me to place a $100 order on Earth Day, April 22, and Fresh Direct would plant a tree. But I desperately needed eggs, milk, paper towels, and a fix of Stacy's Pita Chips (my new fave snack), so I clicked in a small order, and will hold off on my bigger shop and do something for the planet at the same time.

If you'd like to plant a tree, a mere $10 donation on The Nature Conservancy's www.plantabillion.org will buy a small orchard of 10 plantings. This is part of the Conservancy's Plant A Million Trees campaign. And if you'd like to shop and save the planet, here's another suggestion:

Free electronics recycling
Office Depot and Zip Express offer free electronics recycling through April 25. Office Depot customers can take advantage of free electronics recycling with the purchase of any $399 Zip Express purchase. And you can bring old electronics to Office Depot and they’ll take care of the recycling (you have to buy a box to put them in, though).
