I love happy endings—and I love hearing about new-to-me discount shopping sites.
Here's a story that combines both. A couple of shoe seasons ago, my friend Rachel fell in love with a cute pair of open-toed pumps at Macy's and of course, had to have them. As is the foot-saving habit of most working women in New York, she would carry them back and forth to work in a shopping bag, and don sneakers for hitting the pavement. But one day, she lost the bag—with the shoes in it!
"I was heartbroken," she recalls. But Rachel had kept the box, which had the style name printed on the front. She went to the Web to track down the shoes, using a price comparison Web site, such as Pricegrabber or BizRate.
"Since the shoes were nearly a year old, I didn't have much hope," she says. But low and behold they turned up on 6pm.com, where the past season's shoes are sent to be sold off at lower prices. And they were about half the $80 she originally paid (plus shipping).
"I was a little upset to have to purchase the same shoes twice," says Rachel. "But at least they were cheaper and I was happy to pay the money and get my shoes back."
I clicked on 6pm.com the other day and found some great Ugg espadrilles for $52, marked down from $100, plus a few summery dresses I could have tossed into my shopping cart. Maybe you'll get lucky and find a cute wardrobe update. And don't forget to sign up for e-mail alerts on sales and special offers.
P.S. We always love to hear a good shopping story, so if you've got tip or favorite Web site, let us know.
