Lead-free lipstick for less

By Kenrya Rankin Naasel on December 3, 2009 12:01:00 am

I’ve never been one to wear much makeup, I usually smear on a little cream blush and go. Part of it is that I’m a little lazy—could mascara be any harder to take off?—but a larger part of it is that my skin is ridiculously sensitive and I have a hard time finding organic, fragrance-free products that don’t irritate it.

And when I read the FDA report that the Campaign for Safe Cosmetics' finding that 61 percent of lipsticks contain lead was actually an underestimation, I freaked out. (Even though the FDA says levels aren’t anything to worry about, I still don’t like the idea of lead on my lips.)

So I was psyched when I heard about Lavera, a company that makes makeup and skin care products that are certified organic and lead-free. And I jumped on my laptop when I read about the deal they’re extending: Through Dec. 31, 2009, you can take advantage of the Lavera Lipstick Challenge. Just send them your current lipstick and they’ll email your Lavera color match plus a coupon for $10 off a tube (most of their lipsticks retail for $19).

Check out the site  for more info, or pop an old tube in the mail now:
