If you’re a huge New Orleans Saints fan and can’t live without a new black-and-gold hat, or you think a Peyton Manning jersey is just the thing you need to round out your Indianapolis Colts football wardrobe, be aware that not all that shines with Super Bowl glitter is real.
To help fans, INTA has compiled tips on what to look for when purchasing Super Bowl apparel and merchandise. Consumers should:
• Shop in established stores and be wary of street and out-of-trunk vendors.
• Research goods beforehand to know exactly what they want.
• Avoid items of poor quality that have irregular stitching or uneven coloring.
• Avoid items without an authentic logo or with an awkward looking label.
• Avoid items with prices that are uncharacteristically low.
INTA warns that illegal counterfeit goods promote child labor and fund organized crime. Counterfeit and knock-off goods also use sub-par materials that leave consumers with second-rate merchandise and take away jobs from legitimate manufacturers.
So root for your favorite team and enjoy the game, but shop wisely!
