Guys plan to spend around $155 on the special moms in their lives, while women will spend about $100, according to a recent survey by the National Retail Federation. The NRF reports that Mother’s Day spending comes in second after Christmas, Hanukkah, and Kwanza.
Looking for ideas on what to get for your favorite mom this year? Popular gifts include flowers, jewelry, gift certificates and electronics. My brother and I were going to get my mom a gift certificate to her hair stylist, but instead we went for a different gift this year—I noticed my mom wearing a strange combination of oversized sunglasses (but definitely not trendy-oversized!) over her regular eyeglasses when she’s outside.
So, my brother and I bought her a very cute pair of prescription sunglasses. She even picked a pair off the 50-percent-off rack, so the frames and lenses were half-priced! It’s not a surprise (since we needed her to get fitted), but it’s super useful and she didn’t want to splurge on the sunglasses herself because she didn’t think they were necessary.
If money is a little tight this year, look for Mother’s Day discounts, and opt for less expensive but thoughtful gifts like a yummy homecooked meal instead of a pricey dinner out.
Or make some “certificates” and offer to do her grocery shopping, upload her pics and take the red-eye out of all 753 of her shots, or clean the inside and outside of her car (bonus: you’ll get a free workout!).

My mother wants a 'Savoureux Pro Line Convection Oven'. So I spent 70 dollars.
