More women are going online before shopping

By Robin Melen on June 7, 2010 12:01:00 am

A recent study by iVillage and SheSpeaks shows that if women had heard from someone on a message board about a product, they are more likely to look for it in the store and to buy it.

More than three-quarters of women are more likely to go shopping for a product in a store if they’ve heard about it online in a community forum, from product reviews, or from manufacturer emails, according to the survey.

And online coupons were a good incentive for women to shop for and purchase a particular product. Surprisingly, social network sites, such as Facebook and Twitter, were not as influential as consumer reviews and forums.

Where do you get your product info? Do you rely on family and friends, on user reviews, or community forums? Do you use e-mailed or downloadable coupons?
