My hubby and I moved recently, and I was shocked to discover how many old electronics we had accumulated—the hall closet was like a graveyard for old-school DVD players, clunky cell phones and long-forgotten MP3 players.
We gave away a bunch of stuff to keep the clutter down in our new place, but I wish I’d done some research before we packed up the last box. Radio Shack’s Trade & Save Program could have netted us cash that we could have put to good use in our new place.
It’s pretty simple: Round up your outdated and seldom used electronics—they currently accept cell phones, MP3 players, cameras, camcorders, video games, game consoles, HDTVs, Blu-ray disc players, computers, car audio systems and GPS receivers—then head to your nearest Radio Shack or the website for a quick appraisal.
If you’re in-store, the associate will hand you a RadioShack gift card. Go online, and you’ll be directed to print a pre-paid shipping label, and receive a gift card in the mail that you can use in-store or online.
HDTVs, computers and car audio systems can only be traded in online, so no need to lug them to the store. And if they determine there’s no trade-in value for your item, they will recycle it for you for free.
And it’s super easy. I got an estimate for the very laptop I’m typing on right now—a six-year old 15-inch Apple PowerBook—in just 60 seconds. The $122.71 offer is more than I’d get sticking it in the closet when I buy my upgrade later this summer. Score!
