So, I am a huge fan of sample sales. Seriously, I am a member of pretty much every site you’ve ever heard of, and maybe a few you haven’t (that’s another blog). I get so many sale announcement e-mails every day that in times like these—that is, when I’m working extra hard to stick to my budget—I hit delete without even reading them.
But I couldn’t resist the subject line for a recent Gilt Groupe sale. They were actually selling 2011 Volkswagen Jettas at a steep discount (I love my 2008 Jetta).
I thought I’d seen everything, but they were auctioning off three 2011 Volkswagen Jettas for $5,959 each (the MSRP is listed on the site as $15,995) on three separate days one week in December. The full price of each car was donated to Dress for Success, a nonprofit that helps disadvantaged women reenter the workforce.
