I admit it, I’m supposed to be doing my holiday gift shopping and instead, I’m mostly buying stuff for myself! I can’t help it—there are so many deals out there, and I really do need some comfy new boots, a few sweaters to update my winter wardrobe, etc., etc. But I really do need to knock it off!
I already bought myself an early Christmas present: the new iPhone 4S. And now I’m going app-crazy! I can justify this, though—I’m downloading apps that promise to help me stick to healthy habits in the new year.
One new fave is Healthy Recipes, from the very helpful pros at SparkPeople.com. Their tools make it easy to find healthy recipes, count calories, track nutrition, and get support when your willpower flags. Find more resolution helpers on page57 of the January issue of ShopSmart, on newsstands now.
And if you want some guilt-free gifts to give yourself, we’ve got 10 great ones starting on page 53. You can buy them for someone else too, of course, but if you choose to treat yourself, know that you’re doing something to make healthier habits easier and more fun this year. One to check out now: cooking classes at Whole Foods.
See if one of their state-of-the-art Culinary Centers is located near you; they offer free classes, plus some that you pay for. And peruse the site a bit for recipes and other great tips; it’s a great resource even if you aren’t shopping for anything at the moment.
