It’s embarrassing, really—I’m singing “Go Jody, it’s your birthday” over and over again in my head. I wish I could stop, but I can’t! Every time I open my e-mail, it seems, I have another birthday gift waiting for me, in the form of some discount or freebie offer.
My birthday is at the end of the month, but as soon as the calendar turned to July, I started getting little presents in my e-mail and regular mail, too. The first to arrive was a postcard from my local Mexican restaurant: come anytime this month and enjoy a free entrée. The next day I got a card from my former hair salon, offering me a percentage off any service. They want me back!

Plus, when I’m out and about, you can bet that I won’t turn down any free dessert or comped cocktails should my friends let it slip that my big day is coming up … As I always say, you get one special day a year, so enjoy the special treatment!
