If you’ve recovered from
the December holidays and still have room in your budget after Valentine’s Day,
today’s a good one to hit the stores—whether or not you get the day off from
work.Retailers looking to make room for spring merchandise traditionally use
Presidents' Day as a way to clean house, offering discounts on
already-discounted winter merchandise, like coats and sweaters.
According to Offers.com, Presidents' Day is also prime time for good deals on mattresses, furniture, and electronics. And e-tailers typically offer decent deals as well as free shipping. If you need a new set of wheels, February, in general, is rumored to be a good time to buy.
A history lesson: Presidents' Day dates back to 1800 as a day of remembrance following the death of George Washington in 1799. Today, we use it as a way to celebrate the lives and achievements of all American presidents, past and present. I’m going to do my patriotic part by heading to my local mall, with my coupons in tow, to see if there’s anything decent left in my size in the winter coat department. After all, spending stimulates the economy. How about you? What’s on your Presidents' Day sales radar?
